Granite’s World
A journey to discover the millennial use of granite rock
Starting from the inhabited center of San Piero, a small village located in a panoramic position behind Marina di Campo, a path to discover the millennial use of the granite rock of the southern slope of Mount Capanne. From the modern quarries, where some stonemasons still remain today who work the granite as their grandparents did, the route winds through the essences of the Mediterranean scrub, such as Cisto Marino, Ginestra, Lavender, always with a privileged panoramic view of the islands of the southern side of the archipelago, Giglio, Montecristo, Pianosa and in the distance also on the mountainous reliefs of Corsica. Passing through the mill of Moncione, testimony of the rural past of the area, where cereals and chestnuts were ground and then from the "ancient quarries", a place of processing from the Roman era, where you can still see the various stages of processing of the columns that from here they left to adorn the monuments of ancient Rome, we will descend towards the beach of Cavoli, with its crystal clear water, an ideal place for a stop before embarking on the last stretch towards the return to San Piero, all always surrounded by one spectacular panorama of the islands of the archipelago.
